In May, 2018 I purchased the former River’s Edge rental property.

The warm and charming Cucharas River Bed and Breakfast is nestled up in the Cuchara Valley of Southern Colorado and will be open year round with summer rates and winter rates. We are right on Cuchara Ave in Cuchara, within walking distance of bars, restaurants, and entertainment including mini golf and live music. Francisco Fort Museum Open for the 2022 Season on May 27th!

A folk museum at the heart of Spanish Peaks Country

Colonel Francisco founded a trading post at the foot of the Spanish Peaks in Colorado Territory in 1862.  The small town of La Veta grew up around the fort.  Francisco Fort still stands – the last surviving original adobe fort in the state – and now serves as the home of Francisco Fort Museum.  We house the heirlooms of Huerfano County including locally and nationally important collections of Native American, Spanish settler, and pioneer artifacts.  The Museum is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Drop by for an unforgettable experience.

Francisco Fort Museum is an original 1862 adobe plaza! Exhibits featuring artifacts from the entire Huerfano County region, including: Native American cultures, Hispanic legacy, Anglo settlement, ranching, blacksmithing, saloon, log school house, the coal mining era and MORE! The adobe buildings are indeed artifacts themselves, so take a step back in time …

Self guided tours let you experience the historic site your own way, or … take a guided tour with an experienced docent to give you ‘the rest of the story’. Guided tours vary per visitor, but are typically about an hour in length.

Take time to visit the bookshop which contains a fine collection of books pertaining to Southern Colorado history and culture. Gifts, jewelry, keepsakes all with a local and regional flare, post cards and fine conversation, always found in the bookshop!

This year the official Festival takes place from September 22-25, 2022

Every September Huerfano County is the home for the Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival. The Festival, now in its 16th year, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and is a five-day event, including the work that we do in the County schools.

The festival remains a favorite destination for world-class artists throughout the Celtic world. Certainly the beauty and unique charm of the County is one reason why, but so too is the unique format of the Festival. Emphasis is placed on both “entertainment” and “education.” Major concerts take place on each of the four days, as well as numerous workshops, demo-performances, and free events. Not to be missed are the late-night open sessions in local venues.

In May, 2018 I purchased the former River’s Edge rental property.

The warm and charming Cucharas River Bed and Breakfast is nestled up in the Cuchara Valley of Southern Colorado and will be open year round with summer rates and winter rates. We are right on Cuchara Ave in Cuchara, within walking distance of bars, restaurants, and entertainment including mini golf and live music. Within a short drive you can enjoy all of the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer, including hiking, fishing, rafting, 4WD routes, the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway, and the Grate Sand Dunes National Park. There’s even an alligator park!

This mountain getaway offers great outdoor seating as well as a common kitchen and living areas for the guests. Francisco Fort Museum Open for the 2022 Season on May 27th!

A folk museum at the heart of Spanish Peaks Country

Colonel Francisco founded a trading post at the foot of the Spanish Peaks in Colorado Territory in 1862.  The small town of La Veta grew up around the fort.  Francisco Fort still stands – the last surviving original adobe fort in the state – and now serves as the home of Francisco Fort Museum.  We house the heirlooms of Huerfano County including locally and nationally important collections of Native American, Spanish settler, and pioneer artifacts.  The Museum is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Drop by for an unforgettable experience.

The adobe buildings are indeed artifacts themselves, so take a step back in time …

Self guided tours let you experience the historic site your own way, or … take a guided tour with an experienced docent to give you ‘the rest of the story’. Guided tours vary per visitor, but are typically about an hour in length.

Take time to visit the bookshop which contains a fine collection of books pertaining to Southern Colorado history and culture. Gifts, jewelry, keepsakes all with a local and regional flare, post cards and fine conversation, always found in the bookshop!

Diane is a native of San Antonio, Texas an old city graced by architectural jewels, and this beauty surely had an early influence on her. She attended the University of North Texas, studying Fine Arts and then a bit later graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in architecture. Diane’s internships with commercial design firms sparked this natural progression.

Moving to Fredericksburg, Texas she began designing homes for a local contractor. In 2003, Lone Star Living: Texas Homes and Ranches was published, featuring one of the homes Diane had designed, which also graced the cover. This book generated professional opportunities on a nation-wide scale.

This year the official Festival takes place from September 22-25, 2022

Every September Huerfano County is the home for the Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival. The Festival, now in its 16th year, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and is a five-day event, including the work that we do in the County schools.

The festival remains a favorite destination for world-class artists throughout the Celtic world. Certainly the beauty and unique charm of the County is one reason why, but so too is the unique format of the Festival. Emphasis is placed on both “entertainment” and “education.” Major concerts take place on each of the four days, as well as numerous workshops, demo-performances, and free events. Not to be missed are the late-night open sessions in local venues.

The Cucharas Sanitation and Water District (CS&WD) was established to manage Cuchara residents? water and sewer. CS&WD maintains several on-going projects in an effort to keep ahead of quality standards and remain on the front of water management. The District is governed by a five-member Board of Directors.

Regular Board meetings are held on the second Friday of each month at 9:00 am at the Cucharas Sanitation and Water District Office, located at 16925 State Highway 12 in Cuchara. The public is invited and encouraged to attend all meetings. To be placed on the agenda to discuss a matter before the Board of Directors, please contact the office at least one week in advance of the scheduled meeting.
